What is Infusion Therapy?

Infusion therapy involves the administration of medication through a needle or catheter, typically when a patient’s condition cannot be treated effectively by oral medications.

Patients often are able to shorten or avoid hospital and/or nursing home stays when they are able to receive infusion therapy in their home.

At Personal-Touch, our experienced team of registered nurses are key members of the infusion care team and work together with the patient’s physician and infusion pharmacist to provide a variety of in-home infusion services to our patients.

Services they typically provide include evaluation and assessment, education and training for the patient or caregiver, inspection and consultation of aseptic home environment, catheter insertion, and patient assessment.

We arrange for delivery of medication, the infusion pump and any needed supplies and teach patients and caregivers how to infuse the prescribed medication based on the method selected to achieve maximum independence.

Using the education and training provided, many caregivers or patients are successfully able to administer their infusion therapies without the infusion nurse being present for every infusion in the home.

Home infusion therapy has been proven to be a safe and effective alternative to inpatient care for many disease states and therapies.  For many patients, receiving treatment at home is preferable to inpatient care.  We look forward to providing you with excellent infusion therapy care with a “Personal Touch”.
